Vintage Stories and Collections

Stories behind our pieces: some humorous - some sad - some that will leave you with melancholy feelings.

These pieces and many more were carefully crafted by Mrs. Hobbs, maybe even while wearing the dress she made from this pattern. She had a sewing room right off her kitchen and though I never had the fortune of meeting her, as she passed in 1984, I did have the privilege of gently sifting through the cabinets in her hutch.

Where I was thrilled to uncover her many hand crocheted doilies, hand embroidered table runners, and bread basket covers. I stood silently in her sewing room and imagined I could hear the whir of her machine. I felt a sense of reverence in that moment. As I was leaving I saw the milk crate sitting just outside the garage. It was filled with the many dress patterns you see here in my shop. Though the crate had seen a little rain, I knew that with careful hands like hers I could save them.

I always feel a particular little joy to see one of her pieces go out into the world.

  Thank You, Mrs. Hobbs.
